Buddhist Circuit – In the Footsteps of Buddha

Follow the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha on a deeply meaningful 10–12 day Buddhist Circuit journey through India and Nepal. Connecting some of Buddhism’s most sacred places, this itinerary offers travellers an opportunity to experience ancient pilgrimage sites, monasteries, archaeological remains and living Buddhist traditions.

Begin in Delhi before travelling to Varanasi, one of India’s oldest cities. Nearby Sarnath holds exceptional significance in Buddhism as the place where Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment.

Continue to Bodh Gaya, one of the world’s most important Buddhist pilgrimage destinations. Visit the Mahabodhi Temple complex and the sacred Bodhi Tree, associated with the place where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment.

Travel onward to Rajgir, an important centre associated with Buddha’s teachings, and Nalanda, home to the remains of the renowned ancient centre of Buddhist learning.

The journey continues to Kushinagar, traditionally revered as the place where Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana.

Cross into Nepal to visit Lumbini, traditionally recognised as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama and one of Buddhism’s most sacred pilgrimage destinations.
